Name: Leah Boyd
Title: HR Manager
Been with LBMC EP: Since October 2000

Background

Born in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, where she still lives today, Leah Boyd had the opportunity to live in a variety of places while growing up. With a father whose trade was a Tennessee Walking Horse trainer, Leah’s family experienced life in Florida, New York, and Virginia. Leah eventually made her way back home to Murfreesboro, though, when she decided to attend college at Middle Tennessee State University. She completed her degree in Industrial/Organizational Psychology (Human Resources) and then had a short run with a company upon graduation. Leah soon took on a new role with Service Merchandise’s corporate office and held several different HR roles from training to compensation to recruiting and employee relations. During her almost 10 years with Service Merchandise, Leah met and worked with Sharon Powlus, now a Partner at LBMC Employment Partners. When Sharon started her own boutique HR consulting company, it was an easy decision for Leah to join Sharon as her first employee. This HR consulting company eventually became LBMC Employment Partners a few years later.

Current Role:

As an HR manager for LBMC EP, Leah works with clients who are a part of the company’s HRO (Human Resources Outsourcing) model, as well as with HR project clients. Leah’s project work can include employee handbook development, job descriptions creation and improvement, and more. Another key component of Leah’s role is HR compliance. Leah monitors various HR compliance publications to help LBMC EP’s employees stay updated and aware of critical HR industry changes, as well as new regulations and laws. “My goal is to help our employees and clients stay in the know about important issues and changes with HR, payroll, and benefits,” says Leah. You’ll also find Leah busy working as a liaison with LBMC EP’s marketing team, reviewing external content for clarity and consistency. “I work closely with all of LBMC EP’s HR managers, and we help each other in so many ways,” affirms Leah. As her role is unique in many ways, Leah enjoys the variety of clients she serves, and those clients range in size and industry.

Why LBMC EP Stands Out:

What makes working at LBMC EP special for Leah? She says, “One of the things most important to me about working at LBMC EP is that our partners Ron Perry and Sharon Powlus fully trust us to do our jobs. While they expect us to know what to do and how to do it, there’s no micromanaging. Instead, we feel empowered yet assured that we have the leadership support we need when we have questions or need assistance.” For Leah, work environment and culture is very important, and she praises LBMC EP’s family-oriented atmosphere. She explains, “Everyone gets along, pitches in to help, and is team-focused on even the smallest of tasks. We work together to get the job done for our clients, and it’s encouraging to work with people who have your back.”

Personal:

Outside the office, Leah enjoys soaking up every bit of family time she can get. Her mother, two younger brothers, and five nieces and nephews all live within reach to visit often. Leah also has three Tennessee Walking Horses (two that she shows during the show season). Something unique about Leah is that she’s a licensed judge for Tennessee Walking Horse shows. Leah is regularly involved at her church, First Baptist Church of Murfreesboro, where she serves on the music committee and sings in the choir. Leah also loves to read and spend time with friends. On occasion, Leah enjoys setting sail on a fun cruise, and she recently enjoyed her first river cruise through the Netherlands and Belgium, which she highly recommends to others.
