The Client

Bobcat of Knoxville and Bobcat of Chattanooga are locally owned distributors of Bobcat equipment, the instantly recognizable brand of utility vehicles and machinery for construction, industry, and farming. These two authorized Tennessee-based dealers sell new and used Bobcats, as well as attachments and parts. They also boast a vast inventory of Bobcat equipment available for rent. The massive Knoxville Bobcat Super Center covers over 12 acres of land! They’re a service-first company, whether dealing with large commercial contractors or small landscapers.

The Opportunity

Bobcat currently has over 40 employees. As their LBMC EP partners will attest, they have strong company values, and they make taking care of their employees a priority. Controller Mike Borden has been with Bobcat since 2000, taking care of financial and computer issues, as well as managing personnel. Borden describes transitioning away from handling the payroll in-house: “At the point that our payroll person was going to retire, I did not want to learn payroll. So we brought on LBMC EP and got to learn what they did. Setting up everyone was very easy — nice and smooth.”

Bobcat brought on LBMC EP in 2008. “We thought we only needed Payroll, but once we sat down to talk about what all they did, we realized we needed insurance, retirement plans, everything,” says Borden. LBMC EP has since made a difference, streamlining payroll and personnel management. “I had all of these people who were asking me questions all of the time,” notes Borden. “Now I can send them to our HR Account Manager and the whole EP team, and they are quick to respond. The guys working here can directly go to LBMC EP. It’s much better than dealing with multiple vendors and different people at different places.” LBMC EP’s services have freed up Mike and others to focus on helping customers and other areas of the business. “It’s taken a lot off my shoulders. I can send my hours to one person. One point of contact. No finger pointing. And payroll is done…and consistent.”
